In a couple years I will have my B.S in Chemical Engineering(or at least that's the plan). I grew up in greater Cleveland, and I love the city. I really want to be a part of it's comeback by staying home contributing to the rebirth of Cleveland.

Certain things like the medical mart show the new attitude that Cleveland has taken on, and it seems like they are actually trying to invest in technology and research for the future.

That said, will there be much demand for Chemical engineers, or any sort of engineer for that matter? I really want to stay home, but if there's no jobs, I don't really have much of a choice.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

sorry bud, golden flash here. as far as your original question is concerned I believe there are quite a few Chemical companies in the Cleveland area. I would go to Cleveland.com and search "chemicals." I know there's been a few Chemical companies in the news lately

Lubrizol is a very large one, based in Wickliffe. I know there are many others as well. Whether they (or any companies for that matter) are hiring or not in this economic downturn is a different question altogether.

Cleveland listed as 5th for best city to live in with college degrees. Take Off, Young Grad!

Takes into account jobs and cost of living.

Basically, there are jobs here for people with college degrees, especially science/technology/ or medical.

Cleveland, NEO continues to grow in these areas, so you should be pretty decent when it's all said and done.

Yeah, Lubrizol is a name I hear a lot. From what I've seen, they would definetly be ideal for what I'm looking for.

Yup, I think so. I know Sherwin Williams gives a lot of co-ops/jobs to Akron students.

Ah, that's reassuring. I kept hearing such negative things about the city(Forbes magazine rankings etc) that I was getting worried. Thanks for the link!

Thanks everyone, I feel much better about it now!
