I'm a native. The Outer Banks are technically the bodies of land in Currituck, Dare, and Hyde counties which border the Atlantic Ocean. However, the inland portions of Currituck and Dare are also considered part of the Outer Banks as well.

Default Outer Banks map

In planning our vacation to the Outer Banks, for this October, I researched to discover a map defining the Outer Banks. Discovered a very well defined map from the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce that you may find informative.

The Outer Banks begins and ends at the same exact locations that Heaven on Earth begins and ends, in my humble opinion.
