I have no doubt the animals there are well cared for. I've been there a few times, it seemed like all the animals were well and as happy as any animal in captivity could be.
By modern standards it's not really ideal though. It's a very 1960's type of place. there just isn't the space available for the animals that we've come to expect from visiting giant government run zoos. I think the people there care deeply for the animals, but society has come to be more caring for the animals need for space.
We were just there 3 weeks ago. It is a place for animals that, as I understand, can not be out in the wild. A rescue zoo of sorts. I was amazed at how spotless it was, the animals had no dirt on them and were well bushed and socialized. It didn't even smell like a zoo. Lovely landscaping. You can feed the goats and ponies but they do bite, be careful. :-) The animals were all moving about freely and were not cowered in corners. No it's not a big city zoo but it is a nice spot to see a great variety of animals. The capybaras are my favorite!
