My boyfriend and I are thinking of going to the beach in the next couple of weeks. We are going to be in the Emerald Isle/Pine Knolls Shores/Morehead area. Can anyone suggest some fun things for us to do? Are there any great antique shops or flea markets??

That's our favorite vacation spot in the summer. Our favorite things for my small family of four (ages 11-12) to do are:

  • The beach and Shelling is a lot of fun.
  • Go out to Shackleford Banks and see the horses. Its a great way to spend an afternoon. Its a short boat ride out and you can rent boats in Beaufort.
  • While out there see Cape Lookout light house.
  • Pine Knoll Shores has a GREAT aquarium. One of the best we have ever been too.
  • Fort Macon is an old fort that you can freely explore. Hook up with a guide and it's even better.
  • NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort shows the history of the NC coast. As a bonus they have artifacts they have pulled up from Black Beards ship the Queen Annes Revenge
  • Exploring Beaufort in general is a great evening thing to do.
  • Get an ice cream at the Oceannana Pier and walk it at night. It's usually flooded with fisherman. It's pretty fun. Many of the fisherman catch small sharks and will gladly show you what they catch.
