Just wanting to know if anyone has any recommendation on good places to eat, things to do, or interesting places to visit around Carolina Beach or places nearby. We have never been to North Carolina before and we really want to make this a fun vacation for our kids. We're going during the week of fourth of July and would really loves some suggestions. Thanks

Visit historic Wilmington. Walk along the river front. Tour the USS North Carolina battleship. It's great. Have lunch at Elijahs.

Closer to Carolina Beach, you can go to the aquarium at Fort Fischer. Then take the ferry over to Southport. Also, every summer the town of Carolina Beach sets up carnival rides next to the Marriott. Since you are going to be there for the 4th of July, everyone sits on the beach and watches the fireworks.

If you're there on a Saturday there is a Farmers market/craft festival around the lake they have great fresh produce. It's just in the morning I think it's over by 1:00 maybe. They also show movies at the lake on Sunday nights and there are several family events around the boardwalk and the kids will love the rides. They will have a big fireworks show on July 3rd. You can go to the aquarium at Fort Fisher or take the ferry over to Southport if you want to see the parade on the 4th of July. They also have party boats, I haven't been out on one but have heard they are fun.
As far as restaurants go we haven't found a place that has consistently great food but Michael's seafood is usually good, another seafood/steak place I think it is called the Deck House has been pretty good but gets crowded on the weekends. It is a former Church building so is interesting inside.

Hope you have lots of fun!!

The last time we visited we rented a Jeep for the day at Carolina Jeep Rentals in Carolina Beach. The rental included passes to Freeman Park and Fort Fisher Recreation Area. Both areas are undeveloped beautiful beaches. We packed a picnic lunch, explored both beaches and had a blast.
