We are pretty satisfied with Harris Teeters beef and pork, but always looking to improve/try somewhere new. Does anyone in MHC, New Bern, Greenville or Jacksonville have a butcher they really like? I don't want to drive to Raleigh, but 45 minutes or so, to get some high quality meat would be ok.

I would be interested in an answer also. My local Food Lion sells mostly pre-packaged meat. We like thicker steaks, and I haven't been able to find a standing rib roast or fresh duck. The Harris Teeter in Surf City is decent, but no fresh duck, even at Easter. I've given up on finding decent lamb regularly.

I second Fresh Market. I got some great beef there once. It made a delicious roast beef. I keep meaning to try their steak.

Fresh Market is great. If you go to Wilmington or Raleigh alot (like we do) I would highly recommend Costco. We get most of our meat from there. They carry a good selection of Organic beef and chicken at reasonable prices.

I buy locally grown grass fed beef, and it really is the best. Usually available at farmers markets, I know there is a vendor at the Umbrella Market in Greenville.

^somewhere like this would be good. this may be a little more than 45 min away, but i'm sure they have a butcher like this that's closer to your local area.

^this is a good link, in general, for local farms / farmers markets.

We had wonderful Angus, T-Bones yesterday that I bought at Harris Teeter for $7.99 lb. I absolutely love Fresh Markets meats. The Holidays you can get Turdunken, Lamb, Duck, Goose. For the month of June on Tuesdays TFM has NY Strips & Rib Eyes for $7.99 lb. Since the new HT opened up in the Fall in Greenville the two stores have been very competitive.

We are fortunate with both stores being less then 3 mi. from our home.

Some guy just pulled up in a truck and tried to sell me steaks. Empire meats? I can't say I recommend, because I didn't buy them. Is that a thing here ?

I get the image in my mind that you were stopped at traffic light and this guy pulled up next to you and asked if you wanted steak. I hope that's not how it happened.
