Thank you for the insight, lionsgators! Our plan for relocating is to move to wherever Hubs gets a job, so finding one once we got there wouldn't be an issue. I spent the first 18 years of my life in a community that easily quadrupled its population every summer, so I'm used to annoying tourists. So far, I haven't heard anything about coastal NC that would make me not want to move there. I just wanted some clarification, because I get a lot of "negative vibes" about the place from people here, but it's rarely anything specific.
We are on a four-five year plan. We bought a lot in Ocean Ridge Plantation in Brunswick County near the Sunset Beach, NC coast. Just a heads up: Brunswick County has a lot of retirees. They are building up this area tremendously, though. New Hospital just built for the population - up near Leland and there is the big hospital in Southport, NC where "Safe Havens" was filmed.

unless something drastic has changed, that isn't true. the last time I was in brunswick county, once you got passed the commercial stuff right over the bridge near magnolia greens, it's pretty much desolate. there were also hundreds, and thousands of abandoned residential construction sites. maybe that's changed over the last 2 years. I hope so, because I have a house in a nice neighborhood, and that will increase my property value.
Playing devil's advocate, obejectively Brunswick County has been built up quite a bit. Tink of what and hoe many people were there 10-15 years ago. The otherside is if you only have 5 of something 10 is a big increase. It started from almost nothing to a little something now.

I believe there are 30 homes under construction now in Ocean Ridge Plantation alone....
Miss Nancy, I and others are on the same time table as you. You have laid anchor by buying land and I am holding off. The Mrs. and I will be down in Aug and this will be her first trip. I have been down on many golf "mancations" over the years. Headed down on Sept 8th for a week with the boys. I need to sell her on the area as she loves the Jersey Shore where we summer in Stone Harbor. I think once she see's Sunset Beach she will be sold. Once again with me it is between Ocean Ridge and St James, time will tell.
None of the plantations in Brunswick County are age-restricted, so they would certainly let you in!
This is true; we met a lot of young families when we visit St.James Plantation...that development is really built up there - gorgeous place and has a nice Marina on the Intercoastal - Southport.
