Still, this is a business, and he's gotta learn that a business is no place to be religiously biased toward customers. I say one of us should create a petition demanding he apologizes to the couple or face a boycott. Or something.
Even still, if he objected to customers on whatever grounds, he should have told them so right up front, NOT after he took their money.

And [citing other posts] holding hands is not generally considered "PDA"--nobody blinks when a heterosexual couple holds hands.

And LLN, you are quite wrong that the GLBT community "makes everything into an issue"; most put up with slights and insults on a daily basis but "choose their battles". In this case, if the owner had simply made a comment to them, I doubt they would have gone public, but taking their money and then handing them a "statement" that was clearly prepared in advance (and given to others previously) is setting himself up for media attention. As you say, maybe it will increase his business among a certain demographic, but people who don't want to support someone with a) just plain bad business sense to insult customers, especially on their way out, and b) views more than half of the population finds unacceptable can now know that The Stingray Cafe' is probably somewhere they can cross off their list of places to eat.

What PDA? These two women held hands outside the restaurant.

You find that disgusting? Seriously?

I don't approve of his message, but I am tolerant enough to know he has the right to deliver it. Seems the lefties and lesbies on this board, don't have such tolerance. TSK, TSK, TSK.
While you are there, can you let him know that as a man, having long hair is shameful and unnatural? (According to Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians.)

And that he is condemning himself and his customers to hell by doing business on the Sabbath? (Ten commandments.)

Oh and can you let him know that lesbians aren't actually mentioned AT ALL in the Bible?

His vague and semi-literate reference to Pauls first letter to the Romans was actually about gentile women having anal sex with men while worshipping first century pagan gods and goddesses. A view backed up by several early church fathers like Augustine and Clement of Alexandria.

Love? How is telling a lovely young married lesbian couple who have a son that they are "hurting everyone around them" anything at all to do with love? What did he think they were going to do? Get a divorce? Give away their son? Remarry a couple of men? Just to satisfy his ignorance and prejudice?

His daughter is a lesbian. It's more likely he was taking his anger at her out on these two women who were just having a meal.

And by the way, lesbians aren't even mentioned in the Bible.

So if I insulted your Christian ideology (and did so "out of love") would you thank me?
That's even backed up by science:

Brain scans show how people project their own views onto what they think are "God's" views.

Creating God in one's own image : Not Exactly Rocket Science

"Their opinions on God's attitudes on important social issues closely mirror their own beliefs. If their own attitudes change, so do their perceptions of what God thinks. They even use the same parts of their brain when considering God's will and their own opinions."

"The results suggest that similar parts of the brain are involved when we consider our own beliefs and those of God - Epley thinks this is why we end up inferring a deity's attitudes based on those we hold ourselves."

StabbyAbby.... to your 1st inane "question"..... PROOF ???? PROOF ??? My Aunt Tllie's petoot. Since you and others here are obviously so liberal and "fair" minded and so tolerant of everyones' freedom of expression... that is of course unless it differs from yours.... ANSWER: How on earth would ANYONE know if ANY two female customers were lesbian / homosexual UNLESS they were exhibiting some type of inappropriate behavior in a public place..... how would anyone know unless they were wearing a big sign saying "we are lesbians" ? Hmmmmmm ? Pretty ridiculous / un-thought out / and of course biased question.

Inane question #2..... since you obviously have two different hypocritical standards for homosexuals and heterosexuals..... ANSWER: Allow me to inform you that for the great majority of people out there it is "absolutely YES.... unequivicably YES.... without any reservation YES ! Fondling, and / or making out in a public establishment by ANYONE.... yes ANYONE is without question inappropriate and should not be tolerated by the proprietor or other customers.

Whew.... can't wait for the brilliant, defensive comeback to this one.
A married couple holding hands outside the restaurant is "inappropriate"?

Wow.

Jaymax... I feel bad, methinks you just may need to get some quiet rest.

BTW, I certainly hope everyone does publicly boycott this restaurant like they did at Chick Filet.... as I recall it substantially increased THEIR business.

I'd be willing to bet that this restaurant owner has watched lesbian porn at some point in his life. Pot meets kettle huh?

This has been a very interesting thread. My brother, a Born Again Christian over the years has effectively turned everyone against him with his judgmental attitude toward anyone who does not believe the way he does. His wife and 5 children have turned their backs on him. He is a 60+ man alone with his own thoughts and beliefs.

Our niece and her lesbian girlfriend are moving down here to E. NC from NJ next month & although my h and I have loved and enjoyed what New Bern has to offer us, we will tell them just to avoid the area. They don't need to spend their money where they are not wanted.

It has been said that the owner's daughter is a lesbian, I would tell her to move where people take her for herself, Asheville, Rehoboth Beach, Key West. Their motto is "One Human Family".

I see... even more "tolerance" for the other person's view... I guess this is where we all sing Koombayah.
