I agree...I read it again and didn't take offense, because in reality what you wrote was true...the money the transplants bring into the community is improving the community as a whole....what I think folks take offense is to the "people" that come, who...I can attest to, do not have an appreciation for the community they move to.
Quick little example...was in the Harris Teeter the other day in Surf City area and this lady was all mad that they didn't have a few things she was looking for, definitely not a local. Well that Harris Teeter is as nice as a grocery store as there is in the entire Wilmington area (save maybe the one across from the mall which just finished expansion) and she is complaining about it...its in SURF CITY for Pete's sake, which had only an old IGA last I remembered and now has a Food Lion, HT and not far down the road in Hampstead a new Lowe's Foods.
My response (which I didnt say) was if you want Florida, go to Florida, don't come to NC...most of the local folks think the area is just fine the way it is but welcome some new homes and commercial centers that come with the transplants...but Surf City is not Fort Lauderdale and will never be, which is why the transplants moved there or vacationed there to begin with. The Surf City area is essentially the country, if you want city amenities, head to Mayfaire or somewhere else in the CITY.
