I've never been on this forum before but I just came across it and figured I'd make a profile to ask this question since google hasnt been doing much for me:

My boyfriend, another couple and I want to go camping in a few weeks, but we would really like to go camping on a beach, like ON the beach in the sand with some tents.
We live in the Virginia Beach area, so NC is a perfect distance to get away and beach it.

Does anyone know of beaches where they allow camping in tents, with your own built fires and whatnot?
Maybe a little secluded..? And for free?
Google has been showing me all these 'campgrounds' in NC where I see pictures of tents posted up on the beach, but it's just not really getting to the point.

If anyone can tell me some places, that would be awesome! We've all never been camping before overnight, and on a beach, it would be a super fun experience. Especially if it's free, lol.

It isn't free but there is primitive camping at Hammocks Beach State Park. You cannot make a fire (it is dangerous to the vegetation). You have to reserve a site and take the ferry out: N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation: - Welcome to Hammocks Beach State Park It is really for experienced campers.

This is more your speed, and daily passes are $20:
Freeman Park
1800 Canal Drive
Carolina Beach, NC

Small fires are allowed, and here's a brochure: http://www.carolinabeach.org/site_ne...anParkInfo.pdf

Masonboro Island, just south of wrightsville beach.

You need to find a way to get there...some local outfitters will ferry you over.

It's nice and isolated.
