Hello everyone...I live in Southern California and am seriously considering relocating to the Beaufort NC area, specifically the Down East area ( I like the Straits/Gloucester section). I've looked at as much as I possibly can online but still have some questions. If any of you folks could give some answers or opinions, I would most certainly appreciate it. First...crime appears to be low, but is this area good for a family (I have a one and five year old)? Is Down East the kind of place where you can leave your house and the neighbors keep an eye on things, or are break-ins something I should be wary about? (I realize that it could happen anywhere). Are folks super clannish in this area? I'm friendly, and get along with everybody and am hoping this area is of the friendly sort to new comers...especially if they are from California
. Also...does law enforcement have a good presence in the Down East area?
Now for the stupid question: Snakes. I realize that copperheads are very prevalent in NC...as well as timber/canebreak rattlers and cottonmouths...but having a couple of young children...I'm wondering if the area has more than the usual share.
