As we all know, fireworks that leave the ground are illegal in NC.
Some friends of ours are planning to go to SC to purchase fireworks and shoot them tonight (we're in NC).
I told him the story of when my dad got his fireworks confiscated by a sheriff way back in 1985. The sheriff was a spitting image of Buford T Justice... funny story to tell.
But I'm curious to know what happens when the law catches people with SC fireworks in NC.
I want my friends to understand what can really happen... ie go to jail, pay a hefty fine, etc.

I think the chances are slim that they would actually get caught if you are in an area covered by the County Sheriff. In my area, there are not enough deputies to cover all the neighborhoods.
On the fourth my section of town was loaded with aerial exploding fireworks. I think I might have been the only one around WITHOUT illegal fireworks! It was great!
According to an old article on WECT:
Quote:
Certain fireworks are illegal to sell or possess in North Carolina. These include firecrackers, ground spinners, bottle rockets, roman candles, and aerial fireworks. Violators of the law face misdemeanor charges punishable by a fine not to exceed $500 and/or imprisonment not to exceed six months.
Wanted to bump this thread for 2015. My family and I are heading down there Friday 7/3 and returning Monday 7/6. We are staying in Wilmington (because it's cheaper) but will likely spend our time at Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach.
Do you know where the fireworks will be held? I tried looking on their county websites but saw no mention of fireworks on the beach. I believe I saw somewhere that Wilmington will host them. Does anyone know if I can watch them on the beach?

Wilmington's fireworks are at the Battleship. People gather on the riverfront to see the firewords there.
Southport has fireworks....Surf City has theirs on the 3rd.
Fireworks are also illegal in NY, but the cops don't enforce it unless you're setting off commercial grade stuff.
How is the enforcement in NC, are they very strict?

Very dependent on the specific location. And even then, its dependent on whether someone calls to complain.
