So, we are settled in now close to Porters Neck, I found a job in Bolivia. Will I be going against traffic or will it be bad. I have drove it twice but each time was afternoon. My hours are 7 am to 7pm. Varying days but only part time so do not have to do five days a week. How much time do I need to add for morning commute? If anyone has done this route let me now. Thanks
Well ... without heavy traffic it is about a 45 minute drive. The bad news is the area of 74 between the Cape Fear and Brunswick Rivers is always slow. It is roughly a 2 mile stretch that slows down. Many times it continues to move slowly and only adds maybe 10 minutes to the drive unless there is an accident. I would allow for a hour commute each way. It could be slightly less or significantly more depending exact start and end points and traffic.
This route will be much better by about 2018 when the bypass is fully built. At that point you will be able to get on I-140 in Porters Neck and have an Interstate through Brunswick Co to about 5-10 minutes from Bolivia. I would expect it then to take 30 minutes or so.
Now, you have at least 45 minutes, but could be an hour if traffic is backed up on the Causeway.
