Any new store Publix is announcing now is projected to open in 2018. I do not know how much longer the flood maps will be finalized.

Looking at the developer's plans I don't see that they mention Publix- just a gourmet grocery store. I hope that doesn't mean they are no longer planning on coming

Publix is not mentioned in the site plans indeed. The developer has developed and is developing retail centers anchored by a Publix supermarket. The site plan includes a grocery anchor the size of a Publix supermarket with an optional pharmacy drive thru.

Business North Carolina, May 3, 2017, Town square: A shore thing

This story states, in the third para from the end, that construction of a Publix-based shopping center on Oak Island is "likely to begin in January 2018."

The developer is waiting for the new flood maps to be officially adopted and put into place by FEMA. The process has been dragging along for over a year, for some reason.
