Oak Island Town Council, at its Thursday, 16 February 2017 meeting, voted 4-1 to close parts of Southeast 50th Street and Southeast 51st Street, then voted unanimously to proceed with Oak Island Marketplace.
Looking at the developer's plans I don't see that they mention Publix- just a gourmet grocery store. I hope that doesn't mean they are no longer planning on coming
Publix is not mentioned in the site plans indeed. The developer has developed and is developing retail centers anchored by a Publix supermarket. The site plan includes a grocery anchor the size of a Publix supermarket with an optional pharmacy drive thru.
This story states, in the third para from the end, that construction of a Publix-based shopping center on Oak Island is "likely to begin in January 2018."
Are there any developments toward Publix officially announcing its Oak Island Marketplace store?
The developer is waiting for the new flood maps to be officially adopted and put into place by FEMA. The process has been dragging along for over a year, for some reason.
How soon could the new flood maps to be adopted and effective by the Federal Emergency Management Agency?
