This summer we will be relocating from Utah to North Carolina because my husband got accepted to grad school in Fayetteville NC. We have only heard negative things regarding Fayetteville and when we visited we were unimpressed. I work in health care and haven't secured a job yet but am leaning towards working in Raleigh because we also have only heard negative things regarding health care in Fayetteville. We need advice as to a town that's a good medium. We are considering Sanford NC, but can't find much information regarding this town, any advise is welcome! We are in our 20's no kids, but looking for a very safe town since I will spend most of the days alone and our current town is VERY safe.

You should ask a Mod to move this to the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary forum. There's nothing remotely coastal about Raleigh or Sanford.

My in-laws live in Sanford, and you would be OK if you chose an area outside the city-limits. (I can't recommend downtown Sanford.) There is a gated community called Carolina Trace if you are really worried about safety.

You might look at health-care jobs in Moore County which has an excellent hospital. Then you could live in Pinehurst or Southern Pines and have a shorter commute than to Raleigh.

Another alternative would be Fuquay-Varina which is in Wake County, closer to the Raleigh/Cary job market.

I'd suggest targetting some hospital jobs before you make a final decision on a place to live. For example, I think your first choice should be Moore County Regional in Pinehurst: https://www.firsthealth.org/director...ional-hospital

May I ask which school? Methodist, Fayetteville State, Campbell, etc. ? It makes a difference because I don't want to suggest a long commute for both of you. Methodist is over an hour from the Moore County Hospital which I suggested.

If it is Methodist University, then Lillington or Fuquay-Varina are reasonable places to live along Highway 401
