I may have a chance for some work around Oak Island for a few weeks or months, not sure yet. Is there a relatively inexpensive motel nearby where I could rent a room at monthly rates? Within 20 miles or so would be OK.

Shallotte is about 20 miles away and Leland about 30 miles, depending on where you stay and work. You might try looking in those areas. Motels closer are in high demand, so long term rentals would be unlikely.

You might find its worth paying their fee to have a rental agency find you a place. Again, the closer to OKI you want to stay the higher the cost.

There are a number of motels on the island with reasonable prices, most are older but you can walk to the beach and restaurants from all of them. If your looking for more modern or upscale there is the Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn and Wingate all just over the bridge from the island. At most a 10 minute drive.

Do a Google search and you will see what I'm talking about.

The Island Inn would not be honeymoon spot, but for a guy working down there it should do. It is on Oak island drive tight in the middle of the old Long Beach. It's been awhile since I was down there, but I think they rent monthly.

For clarity, there are several small motels down there with very similar names.

Good luck.
