I defer to someone with more knowledge than I. We are retired and our kids have their own kids plus 1.5 more of the next generation!

School systems are not a good comparison. Look at the schools for a location. Generally, the Wake County Schools will be superior, based on the number of college educated parents. However, there are schools in Eastern NC that compare well to individual schools, but district wide, there are others that are poor.

The NC DPI has a report card web site NC School Report Cards
where you can compare both district and school performance on a variety of metrics (disclosure, many of which are worthless), but if you want a quantitative comparison, you can get one, either district by district or school by school.

The site is somewhat tortuous to use. Good Luck

There's no county in eastern NC that's comparable to Wake in regard to parental education levels, which is one if the primary drivers behind Wake schools being so "good". There are individual schools in eastern NC that are very good. Hoggard in Wilmington comes to mind.

No. We lack the population to support schools like Wake County. There are good schools in Hampstead and Newport and Wilmington. Just be in an affluent neighborhood, and you will be OK.
