Driving back to Davidson Saturday after a week on the Outer Banks. We thought we'd stop in Elizabeth City or Edenton for few hours on the way back. Elizabeth City has the Museum of the Albermarle, and Edenton has the Penelope Parker House and Visitor Center. Any recommendations as to which town to stop in, walk around a bit, and maybe have lunch?
E. City is bigger (of the two), has a nice waterfront area with restaurants and such and some history to enjoy. Edenton is history supreme. Read online and see about it. So much pre-revolutionary and then up to 1800 or so. Tour the CUpola house if time, charming main street looks like from a movie set and a small waterfront, much less than E. City.
E- City-good times, waterfront, water sports, some history: Edenton History, including the first rebellious women organization (if someone is interested). Almost no change in the town for a very long time. The Lane house in Edenton is the oldest in NC and just discovered by dendrochronology not long ago after removing some outer layers (I believe). You cannot go wrong.
