I'm considering taking a job just north of Wilmington. Out of curiosity I went on my online dating account and changed my zip code to that area (I currently live in Raleigh). I looked at the matches within my search parameters and was underwhelmed by the number of guys I found. There may have been 50 or so in my age bracket, which is 50-55.

Since then I've gotten some messages and likes from men who are 60 years old. I don't really have anything against men who are 10 years older, but I prefer not to date them as our cultural differences tend to be fairly obvious (There's a certain amount of conversation to have when you have similar tastes in popular music, etc).

I changed my zipcode back and messaged two men to apologize for window shopping with no intention of following through.

Is this a reflection of the population of men in the Wilmington area? Is there some sort of surplus of 60+ men? A dearth of 60+ year old women?

It is unlikely this information is going to make or break my decision to take the job. I'm just idly curious..

If the population is statistically typical, it is likely that there are more women in that age bracket than men. It's just that the men are more likely to be looking than the women are. Did you inquire where these men were divorced or single?

I suspect women of 60+ years are more satisfied with their lives as is. If they are single, they are not looking to take on a man at that age.

Good luck with your decision.

I've been married so long, that I probably remember more about carbon dating than dating people.

I trust that OP has factored in the MUCH smaller population in the Wilmington area vs. the Triangle.
