One trusted computer model, the European simulation, predicted more than 45 inches in parts of North Carolina. A year ago, people would have laughed off such a forecast, but the European model was accurate in predicting 60 inches for Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area, so “you start to wonder what these models know that we don’t,” said University of Miami hurricane expert Brian McNoldy.

And please, please don't leave your dogs tied up in your yard to drown.

Stay safe my Carolina neighbors. Random question and could not find a definite answer googling. Is their a building code in North Carolina to build with block concrete on the coast or most of the homes frame?

Most are wood framed, even new oceanfront homes.

I don’t know about a specific code, but my house is on concrete block three feet off the ground; then frame. I am 90 miles inland west of Morehead City.

Ground level on barrier islands should have break-away siding, meaning the water will revive it and flow through the piers instead of beating the house off the foundation and into the water. At least on the newer builds. Old school, well they’ve survived this long for a reason.

Heard 200 people decided to stay on Ocracoke Island, hope that report is not true.

What does everyone think will happen to Carolina Beach? Do you think all the shops like Britts, Fat P, and other places will be destroyed?

Ocracoke looks to be pretty far out of the path. I'm more worried about Wilmington.
