Has anyone relocated to NC from another state who is a teacher? Does NC have reciprocity with any other states? We are looking to possibly move to Wilmington area and I'm seeking any input on licensure and what I would need to do. In my state I am able to teach gen Ed and special Ed. Ideally I would love to work in Assistive Technology, but haven't had much luck when searching for jobs. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated!

"North Carolina does NOT have 100% reciprocity with any state. All jurisdictions that participate in the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement may choose to have additional requirements for educators who are coming from another jurisdiction. These additional requirements are known as "Jurisdiction Specific Requirements" (JSRs). Most times these additional requirements vary upon the educator's years of experience. Some jurisdictions, however, consider themselves "full-reciprocity" and do not have any additional requirements.

You MUST complete the Steps to obtaining a professional educator's license in North Carolina."

Thank you for this link! It sounds like I should wait a little bit longer before we make any decisions.

My experience is 10 years old, and may not be relevant.

My last couple of years in Navy, I got an MEd from Marymount University. I was certified in both math and science middle grades to high school. I also had certificates from Virginia.

The process for NC certs based on my Virginia certifications was so trivial, I honestly can’t remember it. A “nothing burger!”

Good luck.
