My husband and myself are thinking of retiring to coastal North Carolina, particularly the Wilmington area. Are there any communities that include lawn care in the HOA? We live in Connecticut and would love to purchase a property in the Wilmington area for retirement.

It depends on the community, and can even differ within the community with some areas that have included lawn care and others not. Don’t worry about it. You can always hire someone if it is isn’t included, and probably save money.

Have you visited any communities in the Wilmington area? I have heard of Compass Pointe, Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens and Waterford. Would like to know some info on each, so I can compare.

There is a search function at the top of the page. There have been hundreds of messages about each of these communities, so you can see what many others think. Each community has its fans. Here's an example of tone of these threads: https://www.city-data.com/forum/coas...t-porters.html

There is also a good summary of amenities, size, etc at CarolinaPlantations.com

I believe some villages within Magnolia Greens offer lawn-care. I think the DelWebb community at RiverLights may also.

We are in Brunswick Forest, and the HOA takes care of all landscaping & lawn mowing. Most developments here (many are called “plantations”) offer discovery packages - where they offer lodging and use of amenities for cheap to come check them out.

I suggest contacting a realtor to represent you as a buyer (no cost) rather than going through the development’s office. We did this 3 years ago. The realtor called us to hear what we were looking for, sent us a large folder with info on the area and developments, and combined packages to give us an extended stay. There was no pressure to commit on the spot. PM me if you want the name of who we used.

The Village at Motts Landing in the southern part of Wilmington has lawn care included. The builder is Premier Homes: https://www.premierhomesatmottslanding.com/amenities/
