Hi y'all! I'm from VA but my family and I spend a lot of time in NC. We have an amazing opportunity to spend a large part of the summer near Swan Quarter. I realize it's very rural, but we like the quiet. My question is... what is nearby for a low key family to do? We travel with our youngest who has Autism. He us not big on huge crowds or lots of noise. Is there anywhere in the bay area that has 'beach' or water good enough to splash around in? Anywhere within an hours drive would be lovely. We have spent a lot of time over the years on the Banks, and though it's beautiful beyond imagination, it gets so crowded in the summer.
Any other information would be appreciated as well. Everywhere in NC has hidden gems! Thanks in advance.

I have only viewed the area online. I suggest bringing stand-up paddle boards, and hope you can find a launch spot that is not marshy, possibly the boat landing. I also suggest bringing bicycles for DIY expeditions.

I also suggest bring a book on bird identification and some binoculars. Then plan visit to the Swan Quarter wildlife refuge: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/Swanquarter/about.html
