Hi all! I'm looking for any and all suggestions on some family friendly towns along the coast of NC or SC. We like small(er) towns that have nice walkable downtowns and have good school ratings. So far we've discussed the areas of New Bern NC (although not right on the coast, I know), Swansboro NC, Southport NC, and Little River, SC. Send all your ideas my way! thank you!

Are jobs an issue? You'll need to post on the SC board for SC info.

New Bern is nice, but the school ratings are mediocre. Southport would be my choice, but you should also consider Shallotte and Beaufort.

Beaufort SC is supposed to be nice. I like Beaufort NC and Southport NC too. Don't know about schools.

Southport is a nice small town, but the schools are average. Good source of school info
formation can be accessed here:

Have you visited any of these towns? They are all good choices, but what you see on the Internet, and what people say on the Internet can vary greatly from your own observations.

I thought I found the perfect place years ago. Everything I read, pics I saw, all pointed to it. I finally take a visit and realize this place isn't for me.

What other amenities do you need? Any medical challenges?

@grouse789 we have not yet, but we're planning on heading down late November/December to travel around, stay in some AirBnBs, check out the areas that WE have on our list, but I also wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything notable to check out. Honestly, we are pretty casual in our requirements. We're a family with two young little ones (well, 6 and 4) who are looking for a decent school district, a nice walkable downtown and a town with close proximity to the beach. No medical challenges.

I know reading and photos are just such a small piece of the puzzle. Even advice on forums is subjective, but it's the best we can do until we are actually down there.

Add Washington NC to the list. It's lot like New Bern, but only smaller.
