Hey Guys!! I'm looking for a weekend vacation spot near the end of August. I would like for it to be pretty secluded and quiet. I usually consider Topsail Island, but I know they have been growing the past few years and wanted to check my other options. Can anyone recommend somewhere with very few people? This would be something of a "romantic get away" so I'm looking for quiet beaches with options for entertainment in driving distance. I don't mind driving 20-30 mins for a nice restruant, shopping, etc. I'll be coming from Raleigh, just in case you're wondering.

Low, unpopulated, and much less visited than the Outer Banks, the southern stretches of North Carolina's barrier islands extend 55 miles southwest from Ocracoke Inlet and include Portsmouth Island, Core Banks, Cape Lookout, and Shackleford Banks.

These remote sand islands are untouched by development and linked to the mainland and other barrier island beaches only by private ferries or private boats. (Call the listed number for ferry schedules and reservations.) In 1976 they came under the control of the National Park Service when a separate national seashore was established south of the Cape Hatteras holdings.

Look at Ocracoke..only accessable by ferry and air? Was rated a top beach, last year?
Small place, lodging can't handle but so many folks at one time...book ahead..
