How far inland do I need to be to have lower rates of wind insurance?
Looking into the Swansboro area, but would move 20 miles inland if it meant saving thousands per year.
Thanks

There's no savings unless you move inside of I-95, as I have read. Hurricane damage occurs very far inland.

I think the first pricing break occurs west of Hwy. 17, but I could be wrong. A quick phone call to an insurance broker would yield the answer.

So is the insurance cost based on the sq footage? Trees in yard?
I honestly don’t know which is why I’m asking.

In addition to square footage, I was asked a number of questions about the construction quality of the house, such as the type of siding and type of roofing. I don't remember questions about the number of trees, but that may be a factor.

Basically, there is no way to save thousands of dollars.

Why don't you ask an insurance agent/broker?

Simply because they want to sell something and will candy coat that.
I figured ask the natives, what are y’all paying in insurance??

I am 2.5 miles from the ocean, and we pay $2800/year for homeowner insurance (no flood insurance). It has gone up 10% each year for the past 3 years. The insurance agent certainly did not candy-coat anything. Our house is 3400 square feet, average construction. I have no idea what the insurance would cost inland.

You could also find two comparable house listed for sale, one in Swansboro and one in Richlands. Ask the selling agents what the homeowner insurance bill is. I suspect the difference would be a few hundred dollars at most, certainly not thousands of dollars.

Wow $2,800 is lower than I thought. Is that the entire cost, or just Wind coverage ?. We are looking at Calabash / Sunset Beach area.....haven't ruled out Southport. The savings in Tax will more than cover the Insurance cost

Yes, it include both the normal household stuff, plus wind and hail (aka hurricane). We also figured it evens out with the tax savings from where we came from.
If you live right on the beach, your costs would normally be higher.
