asking for a friend who will be doing temporary work in the facility. Female who will probably be spending 6 months at the facility. Is sub $1000 rent for apartment feasible?

Thanks in advance. . . .

With a 1-year lease, it is feasible to get a 1-bedroom under $1000/per month. I would look south of the hospital for safer areas. With 6-months, you would have to check the policy at numerous complexes. Can't her employer direct her to places where other employees have rented? BTW, I suggest she avoid places that rent to college students, although they may offer the most flexible leases.

Check a Google Map. The NHRMC hospital is at 2131 South 17th Street. North of there are some urban areas that she should avoid. Staying south and east of the hospital, she will generally be safer. Try apartments.com for leads on a studio or 1-bedroom under $1000. Places like Colonial Parke at 5034 Hunt Club Rd or CEV Wilmington, 455 Racine Drive. I am not personally familiar with any apartments, so your friend will have to telephone and inspect places in person.

Before she gets established, she could uses a furnished corporate apartment. The cheapest run about $66/day, with lower weekly and monthly rates. The Woodspring Suites is close to the hospital at 2657 Carolina Beach Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412. It gets mixed reviews but it is cheap.

Here's one reason for avoiding the urban areas north of the hospital. The New Hanover High School is generally safe, but a student has been charged with shooting another student.
