where does the trash from Eastern Carolina cities end up? other US states or foreign countries?

I never thought about this until I took a bunch of junk to the local "landfill" in Greenville, off Allen Road. Apparently it's been just a transfer station for many years and the trash gets shipped somewhere else.... but where exactly do they ship the trash to?

East Carolina Regional Landfill just outside of Aulander (Bertie County) is run by the 2nd largest waste disposal company in the US. Its the hub for where most waste goes in ENC.

Good question. Who does the county contract to haul the municipal waste from the transfer station? Does it go to the one near New Bern or the one in Bertie County?
