My husband is relocating with his job - he will be working @ Bass Pro in Myrtle Beach. I am going down unemployed (for the first time in 13+ years). I'm finding it difficult to find a job - I'm hoping my luck will take a turn for the better once we are there.

From people that we have spoken to, North Carolina seems to be a cheaper place to live than the MB area, or in SC in general. Is this true?
Are there some cities that you can recommend that meet the following:

*30 minutes or less drive to MB (and other major cities for my employment, should I ever find one!)
*15 minute drive to a quiet public beach
*EXCELLENT school system (2 kids, schools are #1 priority)
*Safe, Clean, and Quaint Small town - but not too far of a drive for major box stores

We are not looking to purchase a home right away, we'd like to rent a home and get a feel for the area. Any suggestions you have that meet the above requirements, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Erica

My experience has been that NC is more expensive.

North Carolina is definitely more expensive. That's why so many people from North Carolina go to Myrtle Beach to shop and get cheaper gas, etc. We even bought our cars down there because of better prices and service. There's also a lot more to do down there.
