Hi everyone.
Guess I should start posting again after lurking forever

How far do you think the trip into the mountains would be from the Jacksonville/Wilmington area?

I have friends in Charlotte, family in Chapel Hill, and more friends scattered about the Wilmington area.

The missus wants to live near the beach. I want the mountains. Is there a good compromise here?

Thanks for your input.
What's the average distance to mountains and beach from that area?

The Triad is made up of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and surrounding area. Here's a sampling:

Greensboro > Jacksonville = 194 mi, 3 hours, 25 minutes
Greensboro > Wrightsville Beach = 207 mi, 3 hours, 22 minutes
Greensboro > Asheville = 172 mi, 2 hours, 46 minutes
Greensboro > Boone = 114 mi, 1 hours, 59 minutes

To check any combination yourself... Rand McNally online mileage calculator = randmcnally.com/rmc/directions/dirMapsDirections.jsp?cmty=0

I can make it from New Bern to Asheville in just over 6 hours. Boone is about 5 1/2.
