..time to visit the Crystal Coast than right now in April? I think not!
My DH and I just took a lunch time bike ride along the waterfront Front Street and the weather is just perfect. Warm enough to not need jackets, cool enough not to sweat...and everything's in bloom!
The azaleas have just blossomed and they're a riot of color...and the sweet scent of wisteria is everywhere...the tulip trees are sweetly pink...I could go on...you might say I have Spring fever--and you'd be right!
Come on down before it gets the summer crowds! Bring your bicycles...
Gosh there are so many places to eat here...here are a few favorites, but by no means all:
Spouter's (Front St.) on their deck..last time I went I had a crab cake over a portobello mushroom over Spring greens--and it was wonderful. They also have imaginative sandwiches and fresh grilled fish over greens.
Beaufort Grocery--not a store but a favorite Beaufort eatery. Not on the water, but they have some outdoor tables that are fun. Good menu of sandwiches and entrees.
Stillwater Grill on Front St. Upscale prices for fine food and great water views. Cute bar in the back, reminds one of the Caribbean.
Finz on Front St. They have an extensive deck right on the water, and their prices are good for casual dining for lunch or dinner. Nothing fancy, but a crab cake sandwich or shrimp melt goes down well with a beer. Dolphins went leaping by the last time we were there.
Royal James on Turner Street, just off Front St. The proverbial friendly 'dive' with pool tables and inexpensive lunch and dinner fare. Great burgers, fries, and a very nice roast beef or Pastrami sandwich. Grab a burger, some suds and shoot some pool.
Blue Moon on Queen just off Front St. Our personal favorite for dinner. What can I say? I'd gladly eat here every night if I could. From the appetizers to the desserts, their food makes my mouth dance with joy.
Clawsons (on Front St.). This place will remind you of Cheers. Their bar area is fun and friendly and their food is dependable and the staff is great. You'll not leave a stranger.
There are a bunch of places I'm leaving out, but these are some that immediately come to mind. All in Beaufort. Morehead City has some good eats, too.
Yep, Emerald Isle has great beaches, lots of good dining (sorry no personal reviews, we tend to eat close to home), and fun day trips to the nearby aquarium, cute little Swansboro and Beaufort.
I am also looking at Pine Knoll area near the Atlantis lodge....a little south of it I think near the country club. Knollwood Drive is the street. In Emerald Isle looking at 7000 block of Ocean Drive. Any adivice on which beach might be least crowded in July?
Sorry I don't have the answer, I go to the beach near Ft. Macon...any Bogue Bankers here have an answer?? I'm suspecting the Ocean Dr. property might be less crowded as there's less large development in that area, but I'm not sure.
But keep in mind our beaches don't get crowded the way they do in NJ and points north...you'll have plenty of beach space to spread out...we've walked the beach in July at sunset and had it pretty much to ourselves at times...
