We're going back to Wilmington tomorrow for our third house hunting trip. We live in Virginia so don't have to fly there but it still is a 5+ hour drive and two nights in a motel. We found a house and had a contract but the house didn't appraise for the asking price, the owner didn't like the appraisal, and we are getting the loan so have to go with the appraised value. We have a really nice agent but she also didn't know that basements, no matter now nice, don't appraise the same as above ground. We are out $1,650 for inspections and appraisals. We will get our earnest money back soon. Meanwhile, we'll probably find another house, put another $2,500 in escrow, do all the inspections, and if we get stuck with another low appraisal, have no idea what we'll do. We like ranch houses because we're getting old. I'm an artist and need studio space. My husband wants a garage. We are pretty easy to please. This has just been so hard.

My husband and I are moving from Nashville, TN to the Wilmington Area in September and are looking for a place to rent(house)for the time being. We need to be at least 20 minutes to the Airport due to the fact my husband is an Air Traffic Controller. If you know of safe and nice parts of town please let me know. We are planning on making a trip May 22-24th. We are also looking for a great realtor. Help!!

Marsh Oaks is a great neighborhood and they have a stop light now, so traffic is not the problem it once was. And being out of the immediate city can be a good thing. May depend on if you are working and where as to how much these areas will affect you.

Loving the boating life myself, and seeing your price range, have you looked into Dolphin Bay? I always have liked that neighborhood and most often come with a boat slip on the ICWW with immediate Inlet/Ocean access. <- be careful, once you get a boat, you are hooked for life and can also plan on spending tons of money on it.

I live in Marsh Oaks...other than the dogs taking a dump...and one is a Great Dane...in my yard I don't have any complaints. I live an alternative life style and the people have welcomed me with open arms.

Default Marsh Oaks

I moved to Marsh Oaks on Beaufort Court in 1999 and agree that it is a great location. My concerns though are that downtown is a good 20 minutes away and that traffic on Market street are really ugly. Good luck.
