I have a 16" diameter Luminglas disc that I have sold someone and need to pack, but I'm not sure how. If you don't know what Luminglas is, it is a two ply 1/2-3/4" thick glass plate of various diameters (up to 20"). In between the plates, there is a vacuum that is backfilled with a gas so that when electricity passes through it, a nice lightning arc display is created. This is what it looks like:

So it is fairly fragile if shipped. I don't have the original box. If any cracks appear in the glass that cause the gas in the center to escape, the display is ruined.

What's the best way to pack this?

Thank you!

I would contact the manufacturer for advice.
In general, when packaging fragile items it is always a good idea to double box. I think I'd pack the disc in a box with study foam hollowed out to support it & w foam lid, then close up that box. And pack it inside another double walled cardboard box with packing material to keep the smaller box in the middle. Do purchase insurance when you mail it.

Use everything available. When I receive fragile items, I save the packing material for a while. I have and use bubble wrap, air bags, and wads of brown paper. If it moves in the box, it can break.
