I know that it is rare enough for a college team to have one all American player on the team. But I am wondering about 2 all Americans in the backfield in the same year playing at the same time.

Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard. Both were Consensus AA's in 1944, 1945, and 1946. Both also won the Heisman trophy (1946 for Davis, 1945 for Blanchard). They played for Army.

Name some of those 'whole bunch of teams'. I am in discussion with people who know football and no one knows any team that had two all americans at once in the backfield.

Army is the only one I know of and they had two AA Heisman winners in the backfield at the same time! Crazy. Southern California in 2005 had Reggie Bush and Lendale White. They were both all American selections, White was not a consensus AA though. "Modern era" that's as close as you're gonna get. Though 1944 is considered by some (me included) modern era. Haha.

Pretty sure Jason White and Adrian Peterson in 2004. As someone said, Bush and Leinart in 05. Over the past 15 years that hasn't been TOO rare.

There are now 12 different entities that select ALL AMERICAN teams.

So yeah if the only criteria is that one of the 12 mentions them, there are probably a bit more than mentioned already.

Probably the greatest would have been Oklahoma State. Berry Sanders and Thurman Thomas. They were both all-americans although not in the same year. But they did play together. And of course they went on to Hall of Fame careers in the NFL.

Barry Sanders' record-setting 1988 season might never be duplicated

Was Lendale White really an all-American? Find that hard to believe.

He was an AA selection. Not consensus. The FB IQ on this board has decreased significantly in the last couple of seasons. Thurman Thomas and BS weren't in the backfield at same time. Army in 44, 45 and 46 was the only team that had 2 AA in the backfield at the same time. You guys want to argue with a brick wall go ahead.

Now if op is considering the QB part of the backfield.... It's slightly more common.

By definition the QB IS part of the "backfield".
