Just heard a soundbite that Oregon qb Marcus Mariota will return to Oregon for 2014 season.

That should throw the draft boards off if its true.

Where is he rated right now?

This is probably smart on his part... because I wouldn't have him ahead of:

Manziel
Bridgewater
Murray
McCarron

He's around 5th to me for this draft. Next year he has a chance to be #2.

And rumors there might be some serious coaching changes soon (not head coach)- possibly our clueless DC. I would love to go after Clancy Pendergast. He coached with our DL coach at the Arizona Cardinals. We really need a defensive change.

Mariota's probably going to get operated on or otherwise use this off-season to convalesce. I think he's toward the top of the draft pool otherwise, though.

From what I saw he was only below Bridgewater...that's why Im surprised he is staying.

I'm guessing he really banged up his knee and there might be questions about his mobility. Before the injury, I think he was probably the number one in the draft, though Teddy might have been the next mobile quarterback prospect. Mariota's another Colin Kaepernick - except bigger and possibly stronger. Accurate thrower. There's nothing about that guy I don't like. Maybe scouts told him his stock got hurt by the last few games. Shouldn't have mattered, if people knew what was happening, but perceptions are everything I reckon.

Agreed... Cause next year he will be below Famous Jameis no matter how well he plays.

It really depends on how scouts look at Jameis' off the field issues. If this is just a jilted ex, that's one thing; if the assault charges have weight, even if they don't end in a conviction or even a prosecution, scouts could back away from this guy. In my mind, a healthy Mariota's the best QB prospect out there - right now anyway.

He's returning not necessarily to improve his draft stock, but because he felt there is some unfinished business at Oregon. They were a machine in September and October, but the wheels started coming off in November and were fortunate to have avoided a third straight loss.

You know Jameis already passed on MLB prior to coming to FSU... I feel he will keep playing on at FSU.
