That's my big problem with Texas Tech. You got to play one decent team out of conference. Just one. Tech can go 4-4 in the Big 12 and still get a decent bowl on their 4 wins over Odessa Community College.
Tuberville is working to improve that in future schedules. He has said that he wants to do home/home with at least one OOC automatic-qualifying BCS opponent every year, unlike his predecessor. Don't expect the likes of Weber State on the schedule after this year.
As a Big 10 fan ( Golden Gophers) I kinda agree with th OP about Penn State.
I would have no problem with Notre Dame, Iowa State, and Missouri joining, however.
I agree as well.
Again the fan loses out in the mega conference...it was kind of fun to take in a road game on occasion. Not going to happen as much if you have to fly to the school.

Yeah, I recently read that Tubs is planning on doing this and I'm glad to hear it. That way, we'll be better prepared overall and when we end up in a bowl game people won't be able to accuse Tech of having a weak non-conference schedule.
Yeah I just read that Osborne and Tressel talked about expansion myself. I think the Big 12 is likely done in the very near future. Texas is going to the Pac 10 and this is the conference they wanted to be in ever since the SWC disbanded.

If the Big 12 implodes I think you're absolutely right. Texas will go to the Pac 10 before any other option. From what I've read so far, every school in the new Pac-16 conference, or whatever it ends up being called, would get about 20 million bucks each per year, which is more money than what the Big 12 universities that have been invited already get.
AD's have to be careful with all this expansion bruhaha.
I know the alumni of certain power schools will always show up, but if the footprint is too wide, doesn't that preclude loss of ticket sales?
It's one thing to drive from Dallas to Norman, it's another to drive from Dallas to Tuscon or Tempe. Or in CU's case, from Denver to LA or Seattle. I think even the most ravenous football fan will start to balk at all the plane tickets you'd have to start buying.

I think you are probably right.
I'd love to travel to Lincoln though and watch Nebraska-Ohio State. But wouldn't do it every other year.
Pac-10 to decide by end of year
SAN FRANCISCO -- Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott emerged from the final day of conference meetings Sunday and announced that university presidents and chancellors have given him all the authority he needs to expand the Pac-10.
