Got degree but hate the field (degrees, MBA, schools, credits)

I graduated last Dec with a degree in Information Technology and several certifications in the field but after working in IT for the last 3 years I have came to hate it. I feel that there is not a lot of chance for moving up or growth in my current area and guys in my current company are making as much as me with no degree at all.



I'm thinking of going back this spring and getting am undergraduate certification in Business Management but with a IT degree and a university cert in Business Management what are my chances of finding a decent job and in what field?

I would stick with IT man. That's where the money is. And you're right...nobody gives a damn about degrees in IT. They only care about your experience and certs. Use your current position as a springboard to get somewhere else.

An undergraduate certification in business? Wow, I didn't even know they had such a thing! Anyway I would stick it out. Network and see if you can gain some more experience and a better paying position (IT guys can get to $75K annually, no problem it seems). Once you have the experience...or better yet once you get with a company that will cover your tuition, you can go for an MBA. Much better way to spend your tuition dollars (or not) than a post-bacc. certification.

Hmmm....you know what though, to be fair, since you did not major in business, most (but not all) MBA programs will be pretty lengthy (48-60 credits). I'm not saying that it is not worth it; just a heads up!

Some schools have modules you can take before you enter your MBA program (basically a pre-MBA program) that will help you with any deficiencies you may have. It would be worth it to check that out.

I wouldn't go for an undergrad cert unless you are sure it would help you. If you want to move into business though, I see no reason why you can't enroll in a pre-MBA course and then get your MBA part time, and perhaps even have tuition paid for by your employer.
