We never did have the best educaton system in the world with your reasoning .You cannot lose what you never had,if the government tries to do anything then I would concentrate on why education is so expensive ? What is so different today, than in the past ? Yes,I know times change, things do rise in price but, really as what to get an education ?

It's a myth that education is more expensive than it should be or has been historically. We went through a time period where education was too cheap and everyone got used to it... so now they are calling it expensive when it has caught up.

If you look at the teachers salary in the 1920s and now and then the cost of college in the 1920s and now, you'll see that they have increased by roughly the same magnitude.

The average debt at a top 100 school is around 15k. What you have are many kids who shouldn't be in college racking up loans and never graduating.
