My electrician, plumber, gardener, etc all work for themselves.
That's the reason they earn so much, not their line of work. Median pay for a geographer is around $45/hr, but a successful self-employed geographer, similar to these successful self-employed tradespeople, can easily earn $200/hr. It is a whole heck of a lot easier to be self-employed in the trades, but you will not make anything close to what you make being self-employed in professional services.
(Incidentally, if you had said 5-6 for the realtor, I might believe it. But La Jolla, the highest home value area in the country, still has a median value under $1.4M. A realtor pulling down that many high value homes has a huge reputation behind them.)

Too funny that people can't believe real-estate agents make six figures. All the agents I know do .... and one single top agent in a truly high-value locale can sell almost $100 million in a single month so seven million in a year shouldn't be hard to believe.... unless you're ringing in from some pit like Erie Pa or Gary Ind or Jamestown NY.... But sure... if someone's experience is different from yours it's obviously BS.

I let my gardener go because he cost so much but the new one costs exactly the same.
Would love to know where I can find one for $10/hr!
$7M in real-estate sales means three or four houses where I live, or maybe seven or eight in cheaper areas. Part-time work at best. Everyone's so quick to catcall without knowing much. Have fun.
Then, to be blunt, you live in an area you cannot afford.
If the average home value is $1M, than someone making $70k should not be living there. Even if YOUR house was cheaper than the $1M average you claim, than that explains why your COL is so much more than others.

I have 4 cousins in the electrical union here in Chicago and if working(works hard to find last few years)their journey man's scale is around $39 an hour, no paid vacation or Holidays...
Who cares about median stats from various metro areas? Who says it's not part time?
The agents pulling down multi-millions in NYC are definitely working hard. That doesn't mean the average ones out in the hinterland are. So what?

Whoa, a relevant, accurate, and meaningful rejoinder after all. My compliments. Now, if I can admit that I live in an area that is too expensive for me, can you admit that some real-estate agents make a lot of money? It shouldn't be that hard.
Well in that case it's impossible for anyone to make $90 an hour!
You can make $90 an hour if you ran your own business
