As a dentist I came out of dental school owing $155K. After doing a one-year residency it went up to $160K. So after 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of dental school and one extra year of residency the total came to alittle over $160K. Monthly payments are around $720. And that $160K is as a Pennsylvania resident too, if you're an out of state resident the dental school automatically charges $10K more per year. Oh I know some of my classmates owe well over $200K, some even owe $250. And imagine if you go into ortho or oral surgery, you know you'll be well over $300K if not closer to $400K by the time it's all said and done.
Only $22k right now but I am also only in my second year of undergraduate. Luckily, I do not think I will need loans for the remainder of my education which will total about $80,000.
I have a BFA in photography/ visual arts that took me 6 years to get. My total in student loans is about $50- $60 K. Monthly payments are about $100. That's not counting the interest that accrued while in school, OR the principle interest that is on top of that. It is actually probably a lot more than I know.

100 Dollars a month for 60k? Damn, that shouldn't even be covering the interests. Can't you afford more right now? I would be so eager to pay it off asap!
I have none. I worked while in school and was able to pay for everything in cash. I went two years to a community college and then transferred to a state school. The cc cost about 1k per yer and the state school was about 3k per year so all in all I spent about 10k for my education, well worth it! Meanwhile, I was living at home, rent free, so I was able to save up about 50k by the time I graduated.

HA. I wish I could afford to pay more a month. Looking to have them deferred right now. Yes, I'm paying interest only right now. All I can do. Thus is the life when you chose art as a career... Anyways, JUST graduated in May, so technically I don't even HAVE to start paying on them until December. Just thought I'd get a head start on paying the interest down before bills start to arrive that I really can't afford.
I am going to have bills for this equivalent to my RENT... can't really do that when I have a baby coming in 6 weeks. :/

Probably interest only.
Man.. what I wouldn't give to live rent free again..
