I was chatting with my niece who is checking out Lafayette College in Easton, PA.
1. What do people know about it (personal experience)
2. Is it worth it (career) for someone to go to a good school like Lafayette without the national cache of say Amherst, Wellesley, etc? I don't think major firms recruit there... all I know is its a good school (such as Bucknell, Colgate..) but don't know much specific info about LC.

I toured it along with Bucknell, Lehigh, Franklin and Marshall. I decided to go to none of the above, but I really don't think it has the name recognition of Bucknell or Colgate. Personally, unless you get a great deal of financial assistance, I'm not sure it is worth it financially. Good school though, just smaller and less known.
Used to have a roommate that graduated from there with a ChemE degree. He's making a very good salary right now. I think it could be grouped with smaller very selective liberal arts schools. I was blown away by how much they have in endowment, ( greater than $500 million) which is incredible for a small school. Their grads must be doing well and must like the school.

I googled and their acceptance rate is between 37-40% compared to a Colgate with 26% or bucknell with 28% it does not seem as selective. I found out a neighbor went there, phi beta kappa, economics degree, took him 8 months to find job and his uncle pulled strings to get him a job as a retail sales rep. He was a Colgate reject.. And he liked LC well enough but career services was not its strength
If you are trying to equate the length of time it took him to get a job and the college he attended, you are probably making a pretty significant error.

No I was sharing what he thought of the career services of the college
No one should go into ridiculous debt to attend any college, however. Be sensible about the amount of student debt you take on. If you are a good enough student to get into Lafayette, you should qualify for scholarships.
I live not to far from Lafayette and the kids I've known that have graduated from there have done well. One is just finishing up Law School. It has a very good national reputation. Many people that look at Lafayette also look at Lehigh. I understand that they are generous with merit aid and have a healthy endowment.
Lafayette is a decent school. I don't think I'd pay any more than half-tuition, however.
