My solution is pretty simple. How about we get the government out of the student loan/grant business entirely? If you want to borrow money for school, go to a bank and get a loan.

The banks and the government work together my friend and nothing is going to change that. Why would it? They both have their hands in each others' butts so far you can't tell where one ends and one begins. They've both got it made, why would they change?

You've put it more eloquently, but yes, that's what I mean. Sounds great to give college kids low-interest loans for school, but this is what it leads to. Now they're entitled to have someone else pay for their education. Not to mention what it's done to tuition rates. So the banks get their guaranteed loans, which the rest of us cover when they're in default, while those who actually pay for their own education get exorbitant tuition.
We can only hope for a successful appeal at this point.
Lastly, this is one of the reasons I'm not having kids. Raising kids today is HELL. They are spoiled and entitled, they walk around like King Tut or Queen Elizabeth and they haven't accomplished nor achieved ANYTHING in life yet. "My money" is supposedly "their money" even though they did nothing to work for it. If this was "back in the day," this girl would have gotten her TAIL BEAT by not just her parents but her grandparents as well. But today, you as a parent are truly handcuffed. If the child is out of control, they blame YOU for not putting them in control.....but then when you TRY to put them in line, they put you in jail for "abuse".
Kids turn out exactly and precisely how they were raised. By all means, don't have kids if you aren't interested; however, MOST kids turn out pretty well, especially if they have an attentive family support unit behind them. Raising consistently successful kids takes time, there are no short cuts. If they walk around like little emperors, it's because they were raised that way, by parent who spent more money than time on them, and ended up warping their value systems.
A New Jersey appeals court tossed a judge’s order forcing a divorced couple to cover their estranged daughter’s college tuition, according to reports.
A three-judge panel decided the parents of 23-year-old Caitlyn Ricci are not legally obligated to cover $16,000 of a $26,000 bill from Temple University, according to the Courier-Post.
“A parent cannot be viewed as a wallet and deprived of involvement of college decision making process,” the court wrote in the Feb. 9 ruling.
