I recently got accepted into an lpn program! I was just wondering what the differences are ! Both classes are only a month and a half! Is a rn program harder?
RN student take Anatomy and Physiology, I and II, where there is a lab, and you are expected to dissect a mammal. In my case, it was a cat and it was rather gruesome.
This course covers the parts of the human body, names of bones, muscles, organs, and organ systems. (anatomy) and what each organ system does - eg. the endocrine system, (glands), neurological system (brain and nerves) and the various functions that they perform. There is no pharmacology involved in this course, typically.
LPNs take a non-lab version of Anatomy and Physiology, which is called "Body Structure and Function". There is typically no lab involved. Some programs may call in "Anatomy and Physiology".
There is no allied heath course with the "Anatomy and Pharmacology".
"Pharmacology" is another course altogether. That is, as you might expect, is the study of of drugs, trade and generic names, indications, and interactions, as well as dosage calculation.
It is taught in RN programs, usually integrated into Nursing I and II.
I am not sure when Pharmacology is taught in LPN programs, but you will be taught it at some point.
