How exactly do you get rid of paint here? The previous owner left 2 of those big 5 gallon plastic buckets of paint...which have now turned solid. How do I get rid of them? The trash pickup will not take them.

Thanks.

There used to be a toxic chemicals/paint disposal event a couple of times a year at the Penrose Equestrian Center (this was years ago), but you might call Waste Management, BFI, Bestway, etc., and see if they might know how to safely dispose of them.

I just got rid of 1 5gal and 10x 1gal last week. I bought the cheap $3 cat litter bags at Walmart and filled the cans full of cat litter and let them dry out for a week with the lids off. Then I just took them to the transfer station along with some other junk I have been needing to throw away.

In cases where the paint is still usable, they put it on the shelf for people to take for free and use for whatever they want, like dog houses or lawn sheds (in areas where HOA covenants don't specify colors). So what if the dog house is purple....dare to be different.

If it is latex-based paint than it is not a hazardous waste and doesn't need to be taken anywhere. The idea of putting absorbant cat litter in them and drying out is great and there is no special dropoff.

If it is oil-based than you should take it to the hazardous waste location.
