I think the implication is that a realtor may hire an inspector who will make sure you continue with the sale of the house (vs. pointing out things that might scare you off). No sale = no commission for a realtor.

I have no comment regarding the validity of this, that's just the meaning i ascertained from the post.

I have been listening to Ken Moon since 2006 he has a 2 hour radio show Saturdays as well as pod-casts of his shows. If you are looking for an inspector I can honestly say I have never heard anything bad about him.

Check out his website.
Colorado Springs and Denver Home Inspections | AroundTheHouse.com

I personally did not use a home inspector for my first home. I have been working in construction since high School so I did my own inspection of the home. (Knock on wood) I have not had anything go wrong in the house that I did not find during the inspection. Our Realtor and Wells Fargo tried to get us to pay for a inspection a few times ($400 was the lowest) but I told them only if there was a guaranty from the inspector.
Not only did I find out there is no guaranty but they cannot be held liable for any future issues and they DO NOT have to be licensed in Colorado (or any other state for that matter).

When you find a inspector get references...

Wow, that seems really sketchy... No guarantee or liability and no license needed. I had read in a couple books that the average home inspection costs between 200-250, so 400 blew me away! I will definitely check out that website.

Thanks for the info!

We're in the process of buying, and I'm happy for the recommendation! We will be assigned a VA inspector, but I feel it would be best to be thorough and hire a secondary inspector also. I'm also paranoid about floods, so I want to try & manipulate an inspection during/after a rainfall.

The conflict of interest comes from the fact that a realtor does not get paid if the house does not sell. If the inspector is making the buyer wary of purchasing the house, the realtor will pick a different inspector the next time. He may get paid once, but he won't get hired again.
