On the traffic note:

I just made a vacation trip back home to Virginia, by way of Reagan Airport near DC, I drove down to Fredericksburg, Richmond, and later the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and back. I flew there out of Denver (man that is one crazy wacky horse statue!)...when I was talking to my husband about what time I expected to be back home after the trip, he warned me about construction and traffic he'd heard about on southbound I-25 from Denver to CoS. I laughed at him! I'd just spent hours in gridlock in northern Virginia (my old home in fact, Dale City, Woodbridge and Manassas area was where it was worst)...hopping between I-95 and Route 1 and crawling along...and it was bad coming back from the beach after the tunnel, too. I love the humidity (it's just my thing) and the bugs don't bug me...but the traffic is another animal out East. Even with the construction, this "traffic" I was warned of near Denver was like 10 minutes of stop and go, then it was over. You just don't see the nasty traffic here at all compared to the east coast.

I know that traffic well, mostly I-66 but also I-95, etc. On average, DC drivers crash TWICE as often as the national average; yeah, DC is that crazy. I drove it 30+ years, we called it "combat commuting" and I don't miss it. We were here 3 months before we heard a horn blow....

You are guys are making me homesick and I was only in the city for a day. I was thinking of coming out for like 3 days to drive around and get to know more of the area the first week of October. I cannot thank you guys enough, I am sure I will have some more questions later.

The only traffic complaint I've had is that sometimes people get dumb on Powers. I commute up and down that road daily, and for a while I was seeing a lot of crashes. I very frequently saw a guy in uniform at the scene, seems that some of the military are often involved in wrecks...which might be just because there are a lot of them here, or might have to do with their mental disposition or that they are in a big hurry to get where they are ordered to be. Who knows? I think the tendency to run red lights here contributes to that, you don't want to do that on a road where the speed limit is 55-65 mph.

But for a good driver who can pay attention to what others are doing, and follows common sense and laws of the road, there are no problems with the commute. Oh, and when wrecks do happen, they don't lock up traffic in both directions for miles like they do back East. People mind their beeswax, go around, and get on their way much better.

But I digress. Another thing I love about this area, which you won't necessarily know from only being here one day, is how varied the view can be. Changes in weather and light bring out new moods to the mountains and rolling plains on a daily, if not hourly, basis. I love it when stormclouds break up over the mountains and the sun shines through in rays like a benediction from heaven, and the shadows from the clouds roam across the land. I've seen some spectacular rainbows and lightening, too. Just beautiful.

Depends on the size of place you want, what your minimum expectations are to your surroundings, apartment conditions and what you can tolerate from management, neighbors, etc and stuff.

I've been dealing with some of them from an out of state perspective, and some are downright snotty and terse in e-mail and phone conversation, some are much more polite and professional. I find that the more you are shelling out, the better their attitudes are.

Also, too, I've heard that alot of attitudes change for the worse when you get into a place. Almost like used car salesmen, they are all grins and shaking hands to get you to buy, once you do, they don't even recognize you.

My MIL lives in the Oasis apartments off Fillmore. Nice two bedroom with one bath and attached garage. 1000 sq ft. Pays around $1000.

It ranks around a high B grade. Grade A is the nicest.

I would like a one bedroom with views of the mountains and I don't want to spend more than $750. Eventually I like to buy a house with views but I want to get settled first.

My company is in the 80907 zip code

I am sorry the 80920 and 80909 zip codes any good places near them. Any information will be helpful, thank you

Can't make it tonight, but was there last night for the 14-6 Sox blowout. Double after double after double all night long. Great game if you're a SkySox fan.
