Has anyone noticed them migrating over the Colorado Springs area in the last few days? I think I heard them off and on yesterday but never could see them. The past few years I have seen them in huge groups circling way way up high over the Palmer Divide area and I can hear them too, as they pass through this area on their way south for during the fall.

I haven't seen them personally but there were several reports last weekend on birding e-mail groups - more up in the Boulder area than here, but some here. Apparently they normally migrate at high altitude, but the weather brought them lower. I would LOVE to see them though!

I'm in Chaffee county and I'm building a greenhouse in my backyard. A couple of days last week, I'd be building and I would hear them. They are so high up and it's truly amazing how far their voices carry. When I finally spotted them, they looked like little flecks of pepper way up in the sky. This part of Chaffee county is known for its thermals and the birds (and glider pilots) use them to gain altitude. The crane festival in Monte Vista is well worth seeing if you are into birding: Monte Vista Crane Festival
Amazing creatures

Awesome - I belong to several birding groups and thousands of them have been reported in Wyoming, Denver and Boulder flying over, and I saw a report from someone over the Garden of the Gods.

I bet many people hear them and have no idea where to look - never expect birds to be up that high.

The Sandhill cranes are back, on their way south. They seem to be flying pretty low over the Palmer Divide today, and making a huge racket.
