Toll Road 470 (Denver, Aurora: rental car, renter, credit card)

Today I was traveling back from DIA and decided to try the toll road.
My question is how many toll booths do I have to stop and pay ?
I bet I stopped at 4 booths and paid toll.
Is this correct or what.

New to the area and need some advice.

I guess next time I'll take I-70 to I-225 to -I-25 then down here to COS

If you plan on using it a lot, you can get a transponder so you won't need to deal with stopping and paying cash.

I've driven I-25 & Toll Road 470 to/from Denver airport 6-8 times now, maybe more. Three round trips within last 30 days.

In each direction there are 3 toll booths and a total of $5.75 in tolls. There is an electronic tag you can get for the windshield that allows you to drive the road and automatically pay the tolls without stopping.

I've never tried any other route, and there are some that have no tolls.

I only use the toll road if I expect to encounter traffic 25-225-70 heading north. Otherwise the 225 route is fine. There's only a traffic risk during rush hours anyway.

The toll road distance is actually longer than taking I-225 through Aurora. Add the time needed to stop and pay tolls and it gets worse.

I only take the toll road if traffic is very congested through Denver. At least the toll road is never busy! And so they raised the toll!

Seems to me if you want less of anything, just raise the tax. I'll bet their total revenues declined.

I refuse to take 25/225/70 to DIA, it's so much better and worth the money to take E-470 to DIA. Better on your gas (no slow downs), better for your car and better on time.

I live in Briargate and have been able to make it to DIA in 55 minutes on a Labor Day weekend.

In the 9 years since I wrote the above, the toll booths have been removed and those jobs went away.

For several years now, drivers may buy a small electronic tag, the size of an address label, that sticks to the inside of the windshield at the lower left corner. This method requires placing a $35 deposit with the toll authority via your credit card. This windshield tag is scanned as one passes by a reading device and the toll is deducted from the balance in your account. Your account is updated and your credit card is automatically charged when the balance on your account falls to a certain level. Use of this tag gains one a slight discount from the posted toll rates. For cars without the windshield tag, including rental cars, the scanners read the license plate info and send a full price bill to the registered owner or renter of the car.
