If this is what citizens have to go thro what about legal resident non-citizens?! I'm beginning to think that, by the time my renewal rolls around, I may as well give up using the car altogether.

Wow, I find it strange they asked you for a marriage certificate. We moved here to Colorado Springs from TX about 6 weeks ago (with a valid TX drivers license) and only needed our new CO car registrations (which we just got prior to going back in line for our Drivers license in the same visit) and social security card. They punched a hole in our TX licenses and gave us a temporary paper until the real thing came in. Which was about a week or so later in the mail.

We didn't need to retake any tests except for a very quick vision test.

It was all a really easy process and certainly not the 'dreaded' DMV visit most people envision. The lines were very short and it was a very nice place...

I think you only need the marriage certificate if the name you want on the license is different from the name on your old licesnse.

I was wondering about that. Now I am really confused.
I am moving to CO from OR in August. But one thing that i can't figure out what to do is I am getting married in the end of july. but less then 3 weeks I move to CO. Do i need to change my drivers license in oregon before I move to Colorado?? I don't want to have a spend the 60 bucks to change it here and then have to pay to get another one there.

Suggestion: Just keep your name. You won't have to change anything. Worked for my wife 34 years ago, and we'v never had a problem.

My recommendation is that people go to one of the county offices, not one of the state offices. I did, and it was all pretty easy...and I was coming from out of the country, although I still had a valid Virginia license.

I hear the state DMV offices take forever, but both times I went to the county office it was less than 10 minutes.

Why did I have to go twice? When I received my license in the mail -- right info, wrong pic. Of course, at age 61 I didn't mind looking like I was about 22, but somehow I thought cops might not approve!

Are you taking the written test? You have to read the Colorado Drivers Handbook.
