One of my hobbies is road biking. I'm moving to the springs in July from Long Island and I used to do a lot of bike tours here. Just wondering if the springs has anything like that??

There are tons of cyclists here - the Olympic Training Center has a big cycling program and so there are always cyclists on the roads and at the Velodrome. I think recreationally mountain biking is much bigger here, but we do have the terrain for it whereas you probably don't in Long Island. There are a fair number of people who cycle to work in the warmer months and there are a number of roads with cycling lanes, etc. I'm not sure I've heard of bike tours though.

I grew up in Ohio and we used to bike on the country roads to avoid traffic. Here in Colorado, the country roads are dirt so not as many pleasant places to ride.

A good place to go road biking is Garden Of The Gods. A lot of ups and downs and its really fun. Plus all the traffic is one way and you have a bike lane on top of that. And then there's the view too.

As mentioned, mountain biking is huge here and there are a lot more options for riding off road. I know it's not the same as road biking, but you really should give it a go. We just got new bikes and have been riding a lot. We're having a blast!

I highly recommend road biking at the Air Force Academy. Less traffic, slower vehicle speeds and very hilly terrain at over 7,200' altitude. Makes for a great workout.

Also, an awesome 13 mile loop that a lot of mountain bikers enjoy. (Falcon Trail)

Open to the public...just make sure you have an ID.

There is the Santa Fe Trail, which runs from Palmer lake down through the Air Force Academy, and hooks up with some other trails that take it all the way down to Fountain. It would not work well for road bikes with skinny tires, but you don't really need a mountain bike either as its mostly flat. My daughter learned to ride a bike on this. There are no cars, and its not paved (at least from AFA north), goes through some nice scenery in places.

Sante Fe trail basically is the same thing as the Pikes Peak Greenway. Think it depends on what part you're on.

My road bike has pretty skinny tires so I would need to look for paved trails.

A guy I work with lives up near Chapel Hills Mall and regularly rides his road bike down to the office by Garden of the Gods. He swears it's one of the best ways to get around town.
